Hello, I'm Ash. I work a lot with data in various forms, but I used to be an Open Data Specialist and, before that, a Computer Science researcher. I still dip my toe into the open data community occasionally.

I like making things, solving problems and general hackery. I define general hackery as making something technical do something it's not designed to do. I also rather like 'retro' video games, Doctor Who and gardening. I collect 1980s Transformers and my favourite game console is the Dreamcast.

This is my blog. All views (and indeed horrific code and design methods) are my own and not those of my employer.

NOTE: I am a blogger, not a content creator. I don't need more viewers, a higher Google rank, or SEO. I make no money from this site, and I don't need to; I have a day job and this site is basically a hobby. I simply write about what I do and what I discover in doing so, in the hope that someone else finds it interesting or useful. If nobody reads this ever, I'll have lost nothing, but occasionally I get nice email from a reader, and that's more than the reward I expected. So if you feel the need to email me offering me paid advice or consultancy on how to increase my "organic traffic", "online presence" or any other marketing terms that mean nothing to me, then I'm afraid I'm going to have to laugh at how bad you are at identifying potential customers. On the other hand, if you have any genuine comments, positive or negative, about the content of this site, please feel free to contact me via email at ash@drashsmith.com, or on Twitter, @DrAshSmith. Thanks for your visit!
